hand blown glass featured: “Flow in Blue”

"It’s time for a walk by the sea"

The Sea is strong and powerful, vast and unforgiving, or so it has often been seen in art, a symbol of masculinity with Poseidon as its king. But there is Calypso, the sea as feminine, daughter of the moon: deep, mysterious, mercurial.

It is this calming face of the ocean that Anna celebrates with a new collection of paintings. She draws on this tradition that has run through the history of art, especially in the portrayal of Venus. Venus was born from the sea. As the symbol of beauty and femininity she has been portrayed in works from the roman sculpture “Venus de Mule” through “The Birth of Venus” by Botticelli. To this background she adds her perspective born from American impressionistic tradition of seascapes pioneered by Homer and specifically the painting “Summer” by Frank Benson.

Anna ‘s unique technique captures the color of light through the dense coastal air. Her figures flow like the water itself against the heartbeat of the nurturing sea. The light simmers softly in that atmosphere of salt and spray, playing through windblown hair and through translucent drapes. Her woman become goddesses, nymphs of the inscrutable depths. These are the elements in a painting like “Where the sky begins”.

There is the ocean but there is the beach. Anna also created works that capture the joy of our charming resort town. Feminine is also fun and playful. The beach is all about frolic and laughter and beyond all else, freedom, being in your body in the moment doing really nothing, days lazing on the sand and warm nights out in summer cloths. It is this exuberance of joy of life on the ocean side that she gives in other new works like “The scent of the sea”.

Anna Razumovskaya

Figurative artist Anna Razumovskaya encapsulates the divine feminine that echoes Old Masters artists Rembrandt and Peter Paul Rubens and 19th-century figurative artists like John Singer Sargent. Studying these artists throughout her European academic journey, she earned her MFA from the Russian State Academy of Fine Arts. Ultimately, amidst it all, she uncovered her distinctive technique. By balancing these influences with modernity, Anna’s romanticism and impressionistic style loom on the canvas, creating a fresh take on portraying femininity.

Anna conveys personal influence through the bliss and charm of life itself. With love for classical composers like Bach and Tchaikovsky, Anna depicts many compositions with violins alongside her models. However, the art of music and dance transcends to the canvas with loose, expressive brush strokes while conveying the flow and movement of the figures’ garments. Bold color schemes that allude to freedom and spontaneity harmonize with the fluidity of movement.

Diversifying her technique through different media, Anna explores the juxtaposition between the nature of innocence and the provocative. Her art speaks to her collectors, her passion surpassing through the canvas to the viewer. Her works have been in shows throughout the globe, and she is currently exhibiting at D’May Galleries fine art of Cape May as a premiere artist.
