Blue Symphony Exhibition

In the almost infinite expanse of the universe, we live on the blue planet. We live under the blue sky next to the blue waters. When we look up to the heavens, we see that they are blue, celestial blue. Blue is the color of a perfect day, of the endless horizon, of placid water, of a beautiful work of art. It is the color of peace and contemplation.

The cultural arts have a color, and it is blue. It is the color that appears in art. It is the color that appears in music. It is the color of our emotions. If we lived on the red planet or the grey planet, would we have been able to create art and beauty at all? We are who we are because we are here.

We have blues as music. We have blues as art: Picasso’s blue period, rhapsody in blue. In nature blue is the most sought-after color. That is why humanity has sought the mythical blue rose, the blue bird is the most auspicious of creatures, and people have traveled the world for blue gems.

In painting blue was the most sought after and elusive color. It was considered the color of royalty because of rarity and cost. Blue paint was created by gathering Lapis Lazuli from the ends of the earth than painstakingly grinding that rock into a fine powder. Traditional paintings featured blue as a precious luxury to be prized. If an artist used blue, he was very conscious of its importance.

With this legacy, Samir Sammoun creates his new collection “Blue Symphony”. All of Samir’s paintings are pieces of music. He is a conductor and his brush is the baton. The light dances across its surface. The colors create a beat. Each stroke is a musical note forming a melody across this collection of canvases. This is Samir’s rhapsody in blue, traditional but modern, taking the themes of the masters like Monet and Van Gogh but adding a little jazz. His technique is based on their meticulous methods. He layers undercoats of red gesso down as the orchestra with the colors as soloist dancing overtop.

D’May Galleries presents to you the revered Samir Sammoun… our beautiful blue planet, our world full of color and life with the eternal sea and the celestial blues sky behind. In his art our spirits float in the eternal moment where we let the joy of this planet of life wash over us. The beautiful blues and dancing colors will bring a peace to your home and help it be a sanctuary where the mind can rest. Samir Sammoun is a true modern master channeling the spirits of Monet and Renoir and Van Gogh. We hope one of these new masterpieces will find a place in your home and be allowed to work their magic.

Spirit of the Songbird Collection

Carol King Hood Flies into the new year with a collection of avian inspired paintings “Spirit of the Songbird”. Her art celebrates those amazing things that make our town special. For a tiny community of 300 permanent residents, Cape May Point’s special location puts it on the world stage. One of those features is its fame as a destination for birding. Audubon list Cape May Point as number three on the list of best bird watching destination in America. As proud residents of the peninsula both Carol and her husband are avid naturalist.

Studies show that people who live where they are routinely exposed to the sounds of birds have healthier, happier and longer lives. Songbirds are the voice of mother nature and connect us to it.

Birds are so free, they are not bound by gravity. They are more spirit then animal. Rising to the heavens and to places we can’t imagine. From the dawn of time, man has longed for the freedom of birds, and they are a symbol of the unfettered spirit.

In art, songbirds are symbolic messengers between heaven and earth. They represent the divine, carrying prayers upward, carrying comfort downward. Their flight is the journey of the soul as it sours beyond our physical bodies. Their visits and voices are seen as messages from those who have passed. Birds are the genesis of dance, of music, of transcendence. They are so ingrained into human nature representations of birds appear in all cultures in all times, in Egyptian and Mesopotamian art, in eastern traditions and in native and aboriginal cultures. Without birds there might be no art.

Carol’s new works, like the appearance of your resident cardinal couple at you feeder in the morning, or in a special place within your personal art collection, is guaranteed to bring joy to the start of every day.

Anna Razumovskaya

Figurative artist Anna Razumovskaya encapsulates the divine feminine that echoes Old Masters artists Rembrandt and Peter Paul Rubens and 19th-century figurative artists like John Singer Sargent. Studying these artists throughout her European academic journey, she earned her MFA from the Russian State Academy of Fine Arts. Ultimately, amidst it all, she uncovered her distinctive technique. By balancing these influences with modernity, Anna’s romanticism and impressionistic style loom on the canvas, creating a fresh take on portraying femininity.

Anna conveys personal influence through the bliss and charm of life itself. With love for classical composers like Bach and Tchaikovsky, Anna depicts many compositions with violins alongside her models. However, the art of music and dance transcends to the canvas with loose, expressive brush strokes while conveying the flow and movement of the figures’ garments. Bold color schemes that allude to freedom and spontaneity harmonize with the fluidity of movement.

Diversifying her technique through different media, Anna explores the juxtaposition between the nature of innocence and the provocative. Her art speaks to her collectors, her passion surpassing through the canvas to the viewer. Her works have been in shows throughout the globe, and she is currently exhibiting at D’May Galleries fine art of Cape May as a premiere artist.
